Open Adjusting Room
If you ever walk in and there are other practice members getting adjusted, don’t worry – it is OK to come on in. Dr. Shelly utilizes an open adjusting room concept which many chiropractors are utilizing today.
Why?
-
The main benefit of open adjusting is the fact that it is a wonderful teaching environment! Doctor means teacher in latin and Dr. Shelly takes that role very seriously. Her target is to educate you about your health so you can reach your optimum potential. Practice members on neighboring tables, as well as visitors, get a chance to hear answers to questions and receive a better understanding about health, or more so, chiropractic. They get to hear the same messages over and over, and for many patients, this repetition leads to their education. Dr. Jim Zigafoose tells a story about a female patient who had to have the same report of findings explained to her about “ten” times before she either claimed to understand it or was ready to accept it.
-
Due to the lack of knowledge or misinformation provided by others about chiropractic, the open setup allows people to see how this approach is very different than what they “expect” a chiropractic adjustment to be. People get to see Dr. Shelly adjusting babies on up to those in their 90’s and everyone inbetween, including pregnant women. This helps to demystify the false concepts people have about chiropractic.
-
A chiropractic office is not the typical doctor’s office. Our office does not reflect, in any way, a sterile type of medical establishment. It is bright, open and lively, and even noisy at times. There is a definite air of energy and enthusiasm apparent to both practice members and visitors alike. You’ll never see the doctor wearing scrubs or a white lab coat. The open setup tends to generate an atmosphere that is positive, happy, fun, and healing that allows Dr. Shelly to better serve you. The happier she is (which is influenced by her surroundings), the better care you’ll receive!
-
The open setup prevents us from having to decline people from being seen if they show up late, unless both of the tables are booked back to back all day long. It’s easier to work someone in who missed their appointment earlier in the day or to be able to accept a walk-in.
-
Open adjusting makes it very easy to stimulate referrals. Let’s say that you originally came in for low back pain, yet you hear the lady on the table next to you telling Dr. Shelly how much better her asthma, headaches, high blood pressure, or allergies is since she started care. If you know a friend or family member that experiences one of the conditions she says is better, you’ll be more likely to send them in hearing that chiropractic was able to help someone else.
-
People frequently interact with each other which creates a community-like atmosphere. Life, health, and healing is all about relationships. It begins with the relationship you have with your body and then reflects from there. Dr. Shelly has seen numerous people run into each other in her office who haven’t seen one another in months. This creates an energy of caring and concern that contributes to your healing process and is most likely not found in any other doctor’s office that you’ve experienced.
Please note that your first visit will always be private, and all ongoing adjustments will be provided in this fashion while fully clothed.
If you at any time need to discuss something that is more personal, please email or call to set up a private time to meet with the doctor.
