Numbness...tingling...lack of use of your hand...
Yes it gets annoying and most people think they need to have surgery to remove the pressure that is on the nerve causing these symptoms.
But that's not the case!
Why?
The same philosophy that nerves can incur interference when they exit the spine can be applied to other joints of the body as well. Nearly every joint is susceptible to fixations and malfunctions that impair function and range of motion. Trauma, micro-traumas, vibrations, excess use and repetitive motions are often culprits.
THE TUNNEL
A band of ligaments and 8 small bones make up what is known as the carpal tunnel in your wrist. Painful symptoms can set in when nerves that are passing through the tunnel are compressed by contracted or inflamed muscles and/or misaligned bones.
Symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome include:
numbness, tingling, weakness, or pain into the thumb, index, middle, and half of the ring finger
decreased hand and grip strength
decreased range of motion
pain and inflammation surrounding the wrist
Carpal tunnel syndrome is most often caused by overuse, such as repetitive motions, typing, texting, and sports.
THE SPINE
Believe it or not, structural changes in your neck, shoulder, and/or elbow may also be contributing to carpal tunnel problems. Subluxations in your upper spine may compromise the workings of any structure between it and the tip of your little finger. This is often called the "Double Crush Syndrome."
"Thoracic Outlet Syndrome" is a term used to describe the entrapment of a bundle of nerves that pass through an area near your neck, above your collar bone. When these nerves are trapped, symptoms mimic carpal tunnel syndrome.
OTHER JOINTS
Shoulders, hip problems, knees, ankles and even jaw problems have been shown to respond to chiropractic care. Joints are where two bones come together and interlock to create a full range of motion. If the bones are misaligned, the joint isn’t going to function properly and pain will eventually set in to alarm you that something is not right.
