Why Do Athletes Need Chiropractic?

Did you know that 90% of all world class athletes use chiropractic care to prevent injuries and increase performance?

All NFL teams have a chiropractor.

An athlete's body experiences a lot of stress between the tough workouts and the stress of daily life, which unfortunately can lead to serious injuries.

Studies show that high-impact sports can cause the same amount of wear and tear on the body as a car accident.

As a sports chiropractor, my main goal is to help you reduce injuries, improve recovery, and maximize your performance.

Here's how:

  1. Asymmetry: One of the biggest causes of injuries in athletes is asymmetry throughout the body, meaning one side of the body is different from the other. It could be a strength difference on the left or right side, or a high right shoulder and longer left leg. A chiropractic adjustment aligns the body and corrects your posture, which reduces the risk of injury because one area of the body won't have to work as hard or experience as much stress by picking up the slack from a deficient area.

  2. Range of Motion: When your spine is out of alignment, your muscles may spasm or cramp up, causing a decrease in your range of motion and flexibility. A chiropractic adjustment relieves the tension, which reduces pain and improves flexibility. You may even notice your form during exercise or running improves because tight muscles won't be holding you back.

  3. Faster Healing: Misalignments throughout the body slow down healing. When an athlete is injured, his or her body tries to protect itself with muscle spams and inflammation. This increases the time it takes for the athlete to heal fully and be pain free. A chiropractic adjustment speeds up the recovery process of your muscles and allows you to heal faster so you can continue doing what you love.

The problem is that we were designed to be athletes, yet we have a bad and unnatural habit of sitting down all day. Being sedentary is not only bad for our spines, but also bad for our posture. We are glued to our cell phones, ipads, and laptops!

Unfortunately, everyone has bad posture and it is getting worse at the speed of technology!

Did you know that every inch your ears are in front of your shoulders you head weighs an extra 10 pounds?

The majority of my patients heads weigh an extra 20-30 pounds.

Just imagine what that does to your spine and the muscles in your back. Now, imagine running or lifting weights with all of that added weight. This is how you injure yourself, or do damage to your body... and one day, you wake up with pain wondering what caused it.

Pain shows up when it's too late. It is the last symptom to appear, yet the first to go away. Just because you have no pain does not mean you are healthy.

Arnold Schwarzenegger claims that the best way to use chiropractors is not only after injuries, but also before injury.

Can anyone benefit from a chiropractor?

Yes. Ideally, everyone with a spine needs a chiropractor.

Chiropractic isn't just for neck and back pain – it focuses on removing blockages in the nervous system, and your nervous system controls every cell, tissue, and organ in your body.

When there is a block in your nervous system, which is caused by the 4 types of stress, your cells, tissues, and organs do not receive the message from the brain telling them how to function. What does that mean? They function at maybe 50-60%.

You can't feel this – but eventually, symptoms develop and most people take medicine for these symptoms when the root cause is in the spine.

For example, when the lungs are not functioning at 100%, symptoms such as asthma and allergies develop.

To receive the best results from chiropractic care, it is recommended to treat chiropractic like going to the gym or eating healthy.

It is a lifestyle, not a quick fix.

A chiropractic adjustment once per week can make a huge difference in not just your sport, but your overall quality of life.

Children need chiropractic too, and it is recommended that children receive at least 1 adjustment per month as their body is growing and developing. (Children are free in my office, by the way.)

Some of the benefits may include, but are not limited to:

  • decreased pain

  • increased flexibility

  • boosted immune system

  • reduced stress

  • less injuries

  • better sleep

  • enhanced performance

  • decreased use of medication

  • more focus, concentration and clarity

  • enhanced quality of life

  • overall sense of happiness and well-being

  • and much more!
